Citing Executive Privilege, Bush Avoids Dentist Appointment

Washington - Once again invoking Executive Privilege, President Bush today refused to show up for a scheduled dentist appointment. The appointment had been made nearly four weeks ago by President Bush’s personal secretary.

Defending his decision to avoid the appointment, Bush said, “I’m the president. Me. Not you. Me. And not him, either. Me. And the president needs to have a candid, open relationship with his teeth. If I have to then explain that relationship and disclose what my teeth and I have exchanged between one another, to some committee or some such thing, I would be a less effective president. It’s as simple as that. And I’m not all that effective now.”

House Judiciary Committee Chairman John Conyers (D-Mich) said the invoking of executive privilege, “Was a blatant slap in the face to the Constitution. This administration continues to claim special rights and allowances that they do not in fact have. No American is above the dentist.”
