My First WordPress Theme
November 3, 2009
Summary: You’re looking at the first WordPress theme I’ve created from scratch. It’s a work in progress, and I would love any feedback.
Yes, my friends, it’s true. I have created a WordPress theme from scratch. Now, many of you are asking, what’s a WordPress? What’s a theme? What’s a Jerome? All good questions.
WordPress is free software that allows one to have their own blog. Designers make templates for those blogs, which are called themes. Up until now, I’ve been using other people’s themes, namely the great ones created by Chris Pearson. Most recently, I bought Thesis, and I highly recommend it. It’s a fantastic theme that you can do almost anything with.
But in using Thesis, I learned a lot more about php and css and whatnot than I had known before. And there have always been things I wanted a theme to do that were specific to a news site (or a fake news site, as the case may be). So I figured, you know what, why not try to do this on my own and make a theme that has all the stuff I want a theme to have? So I did.
I’ll have more on the theme development and updates to theme (for those dorks interested in such things) on my little blog, but the main point is that this is a work in progress, and I would love any feedback you guys have. Either leave a comment on this post or send me an email. Or, hell, start a website about how great my website looks. I won’t stop you.
