Overbearing: From NPNR, I’m David Overbearing.

Former Treasury Secretary Hank Paulson testified Thursday before the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee. Under heated questioning, Paulson admitted pressuring Bank of America CEO Ken Lewis to buy Merrill Lynch last December. Paulson said that while his actions weren’t perfect, they were done in the interest of the health of the overall economy.

Paulson: Senator, my overarching goal at all times was to restore stability and prosperity to the Goldman Sachs of America.

Senator: Excuse me, excuse me. Did you say “The Goldman Sachs of America?”

Paulson: No, I said “The United States of America.”

Senator: I think, I think you said “The Goldman Sachs of America.”

Paulson: Senator, I wouldn’t confuse Goldman Sachs with The United States. The United States is a powerful financial institution for whom I used to work, and Goldman Sachs is the country in which I live.

Overbearing: Paulson also said he was proud of his tenure as Treasury Secretary and was honored to be able to serve Goldman Sachs in such a way.

One Response to “Paulson Admits Pressuring Bank of America on Merrill Deal”

  1. You gotta love these whack a mole snake oil politicians, bankers, financial wizards, and mortgage brokers.

Speaking of mortgage brokers, I took out a mortgage from Washington Mutual to buy my home in 2002, and just found out after it got tranched, bundled, and whacked a little that I now have to send my payments to some bank named the “Third Bank of Swaziland.” Couldn’t they have whacked it all the way up to at least the “Second Bank of Swaziland” for God’s sake!

Anyway…”I pledge allegiance, to the flag, of the United States of Goldman Sachs…and to the repugnant for which it stands, One World Order, under Paulson, invisible, with liberty and justice for them.”
