Scalia and Thomas Perform ‘Who’s On First?’ at Local Auditorium
January 22, 2009
Washington – Supreme Court Justices Antonin Scalia and Clarence Thomas peformed their rendition of the famous comedy sketch ‘Who’s On First?’ to a sold-out crowd at Beckman Auditorium. The sketch, made famous by comedy duo Abbott and Costello, is a favorite of both men. According to Scalia, he approached Thomas about a year ago and suggested they work on their own version of the piece. They rehearsed for roughly four weeks before tonight’s premiere.
“Well, the reason it works is because Justice Thomas is such a great straight man,” Scalia remarked. “I mean, you can’t get him to smile. It’s almost impossible. And when he does, it’s creepy. I tell him not to as much as I can.”
Thomas, for his part, said, “My suggestion was ‘Waiting for Godot.’ Scalia didn’t want to do that.”
