Overbearing: From NPNR, I’m David Overbearing.

The Senate today narrowly voted down an amendment that would have allowed people with concealed firearm permits in one state to carry those firearms into another state. Supporters of the measure were attempting to attach it to the defense authorization bill.

Senator Jim Allen of Utah, one of the bill’s sponsors, said he was disappointed by the vote.

Allen: I am very disappointed. I don’t see why a person who has a concealed firearm permit in one state where the permit laws are a bit less stringent can’t carry that concealed firearm into a different state where the permit laws are more strict, just because he may have a wee bit of a drinking problem and an almost imperceptible criminal record.

Overbearing: Senator Allen says he and his colleagues who support gun rights have not given up, and plan to propose more legislation related to gun rights throughout this year.

Allen: I have one bill that I’m working on with Senator Sessions that will allow children to bring their parents’ guns to school for show and tell. And if that goes down, well, then I just don’t understand this country anymore.

Overbearing: Earlier this year, the senate voted in favor of an amendment to allow loaded, concealed firearms to be brought into national parks. Gun rights advocates hailed that vote, as they said there is nothing more American than enjoying nature while shooting at it.

  1. So what’s the big deal here Mr. Overbearing? Some people walk around carrying cell phones on their hips, and some guys like to transport mangos over state lines, and others like to carry all their worries and emotions on their sleeves.

Mangos…guns…woes…they can all kill given the right circumstances, and in their own unique ways. For example my Uncle Bernie choked to death on a not so ripe mango. So…mangos, guns, pineapples, bazookas…just what exactly is your point with this story?
